Cherry Pie Design a Pie Page

Greetings from the land of covid-induced fatigue and sickness. We lasted 3 years without catching it, and then my husband started exhibiting symptoms over the weekend. I woke up this morning (Tuesday) feeling sick and then my baby woke up from her nap this afternoon with a fever and fatigue, which breaks my heart more than anything. This weekend was supposed to be her first birthday party, which is now obviously postponed. Luckily so far my 3 year old seems to be holding strong, but only time will tell.

Anyway, I don’t want to dwell on that too much, because I wanted to make sure to get this resource up before Thanksgiving! This free printable is a fun extension to the Cherry Pie song game I taught on Friday (See that post and get the free song card here).

For this activity, the kids get to design their dream pie (anything! My cute boy made a “tractor pie”, and I’ve had kids come up with all kinds of other delightfully whimsical ideas, to include traditional favorites like ice cream pie, chocolate pie, and of course, pumpkin pie!). After drawing their pie, they fill in the sentence frame to complete the second half of the song, and sing the song using the name of their own pie.

I think this is such a fun activity for those excitement-filled (never ending) days before the holiday break. This would also make for a lovely bulletin board display. You could include a qr code of the students singing about their pies that parents and staff could scan as they walk down the hall.

Let me know if you give this one a try! I’m hoping to be well enough to make a Folk Song Friday post. I started working on this one before I fell ill, otherwise I don’t think I’d have had enough energy to get it up. But here we are! Woohoo!
