Hello friends! I have re-emerged after my hectic week of baking for last week’s harvest festival, and I am so, so excited to share this week’s printable. Am I allowed to have favorites? Because I think this might be my new favorite. When my 3yo saw me assembling these little cake slices he kept telling me how excited he was. He has been having SO much fun playing with them since I finished them, so I’d call that a real win! It’s so cute (and extremely rewarding) to hear him singing as he plays.
Before we begin, make sure you have learned the song by downloading the free song card. Alright, let’s go!
This week I am trying something new–I kind of got carried away as I was making this printable, and I kept adding stuff to the print and play set. I split it up so that the “base” materials are available free (download at the end of this post), and then a bunch of fun “add ons” are available in my shop as a deluxe print and play set.
The free set includes everything you need to create the top tier of the sprinkle cake with 5 candles. The candles even have little “pockets” inside the cake so that the candle stands up straight instead of slouching or sitting crooked and loose. Like I said, I got kind of carried away with the details…
The deluxe set includes everything you need to create a large bottom tier for the sprinkle cake, 5 additional candle colors, 10 party hats, a deluxe song card with a QR code for the recording, full sized (US-letter) sheet music with QR code for the recording, and the m4a file to save as you wish (for personal/classroom use only.)
Here’s some of the cute party hats included in the deluxe set. 5 of the hats are patterned and 5 are solid coordinating colors.
The deluxe set includes a printable knife to “cut” the cake–as a note, some schools may not allow even a paper knife in a classroom, as they may view it as a weapon or a symbol of a weapon. In that case, encourage students to “cut” the cake with a chopping hand motion.
My 3yo was deep into his imaginary play, serving up cake slices and talking about birthday parties. This would be wonderful in a dramatic play center, music class center, preschool birthday celebration, or your home!
I was laughing with my family that I had to dust off the ol' math skills to put this together–so many circles/circumference/calculating so little time.
I truly had so much fun putting this together, and I hope that you enjoy this resource. Let me know how you like this new structure idea of a free “base set” plus optional paid “add-ons”. I think it would be a more sustainable way for me to be able to keep sharing these resources while also being conscious of what I am offering with my (very limited) time.
Reach out and let me know if you give this activity a try! I always love hearing from you guys over on my instagram. Happy singing!
