Cut The Cake Song Card

Hello friends and happy Folk Song Friday! I have been baking a ton this week–our little community is putting on a harvest festival tomorrow evening and I signed up to do a bakery booth. I LOVE baking, it’s my favorite non-Music Lit related hobby. I got especially into baking over the course of the pandemic/lock down, and took a course by Cake By Courtney to learn how to frost fancy tiered cakes. It’s been such a fun hobby to learn, and since taking the course about two years ago, I have baked soooo many cakes. I just really love baking cakes for the people that I love❤️.

Because I was making fall-inspired cakes, I chose a yummy pumpkin butter pecan cake, apple cider cake, and French apple pie cake. Click the links if you want the recipes (highly recommend!). And if you don’t want to frost a fancy cake, you can make any of her cakes into sheet cakes as well! In fact, I made one of each as a fancy tiered cake to raffle off and then another version of each cake as a sheet cake to serve up. I’ll add some pictures to this post after the event tomorrow!

Anyway, all that baking definitely influenced my decision for this week’s folk song! I asked on my instagram what baking-related song I was thinking of and people guessed some truly great folk songs! Patty Cake, the Muffin Man, Naughty Kitty Cat, Baker Baker…all which we will have to cover at some point! But this week I am sharing one of my very favorites, Cut the Cake!

Cut the Cake is such a fun and energetic song to share with your kids. The game is way too fun, and everyone in my school LOVED it–from first grade all the way through sixth. I think when there’s a chasing/racing element to the game, it’s an immediate hook. Make sure to check out the instructions for the game included on the card.

It’s also a fun song to include for celebrations–a quick game when a student announces it’s their birthday, or a fun and easy game to teach at a birthday party!

Hope you enjoy!
