Fall is Here Ideograph

Hello friends! I hope the first few days of Fall have been magical and full of memory-making. I took my two kids to the little pumpkin patch by our house yesterday and we had some wonderful fall fun!

Today I’m sharing a little ideograph to go along with the Folk Song “Fall is Here” from my last post. Make sure you’ve printed off the free song card and learned the song so that you can do this activity! I keep the song card in the tray with the activity so that my son can “read” the music as he is playing and working. It’s incredibly important that children are exposed to visual music because it helps them realize that music can be written down, just like stories and ideas can!

As a little reminder, an ideograph is a way to visually represent music on a page. The pictures correspond to a part of the song, and the children can point to the pictures as they sing the song, to track and “read” the song as they work. It works beautifully for pre-reading children, as the pictures clearly tell the story of the song. I learned about Ideographs during my Songworks training this summer, and I have an whole highlight on my instagram about what they are and how they work, so if you’re interested in learning more, go check it out!

I’ll also put a little demo on my instagram for how to read the ideograph, so check that out as well.
