Happy Folk Song Friday! Today I’m sharing a fall favorite, Hop Old Squirrel! This song has a fun little game that goes with it, and the instructions are inlcuded on the song card below. My students always loved chasing games the best, so I think this one will be a hit!
I also recently got this cute little squirrel puppet, and I think it would be so fun to bring in for another way to play with the song. I’m obsessed with its fluffy little tail. They have a larger puppet as well if your budget allows, but I think the finger puppet is still a great size. I’ve started collecting these folkmanis puppets, they’re just so cute! I have my eyes on the black cat, bat, and frog finger puppets for Halloween.

I also think I’ll share a poem about squirrels this coming week as well as some ways to use the poem in a music class, and I’m excited to explore that with you as well.
