Ladybug, Ladybug Finger Puppets

I hope you all had a nice weekend! It was my birthday yesterday and I had a nice weekend just being with my little family and eating yummy food! Today I’m back sharing the activity for this week’s folk song, Ladybug Ladybug. Make sure to download the folk song card by clicking here.

The movement activity to go along with the song is fun just with your hands, but it’s even MORE fun with cute little ladybug finger puppets! I’ve created two different options–the first download is just a simple print, cut, and glue paper finger puppet set. Quick, easy, and fun.

The second download is a pattern to create felt finger puppets, which will last quite a bit longer and are so sweet, and still fairly easy to make. All the instructions for both options are included on the free downloads, located at the end of this post.

My hope in sharing these finger puppets is that they will inspire your children and students to really play with the song. Play is such a wonderful way to get in purposeful repetition, mastering both the song and its meaning. Having a ladybug puppet to look at and interact with is great for our little friends to create a concrete understanding of the subject, and they’re just delightful to play with. I based the puppet pattern off of a set of ladybug puppets I made for my daughter this past summer and they have seen a lot of play, just in an imaginative/general sense as well as with the song, after we learned it a few months ago.

For a ladybug-y invitation to musical play, set out the song card and the finger puppets along with some optional faux leaves and flowers, and watch their ladybugs hunt for aphids and fly around from place to place, singing as they go. Let me know if you give this a try!
