Hello friends! Today we’re going to have some more friend with our friend Mary. I had so much fun drawing up some color song cards to sing through the first verse of the song as she wears all the colors of the rainbow! The free download is located at the bottom of this post. And Make sure to download the free song card from the last post to learn the song!
(Just as an FYI I would recommend printing all of these cards off on cardstock for best results. And consider laminating the actual set of color cards so that they last longer, especially for classroom/early childhood use!)
But that’s not all! There are a few other ways to play with Mary and her dress of many colors. We’ve also got Memory–print off two versions of the color cards and play the game in the usual way, except when you make a match you sing about the color she is wearing!
Then there’s my personal favorite, a color seek and find activity! Print off the page where Mary is in color but her dress is in white, and cut out her dress, bow, and shoes with an exacto knife. Then look around your home, classroom, park, wherever to find different colors and textures for Mary to wear! Can you sing about them? Seriously, it’s so fun to find different options for Mary to wear. I also sized the cards so they’d fit onto my son’s Picasso Tiles, and it’s fun to see her little dress shine through the card.
The final activity is designing your own dress for Mary, and is ink-friendly. Sing about the dress you created: “Mary wore her striped dress..”, “Mary wore her polka dots…” etc.
In fact, you could also print out the ink friendly page and color in the solid color dresses to complete the other activities as well, if you are trying to save on ink or are working in a school that restricts printing (don’t even get me started on what I think about that😡).
Anyhoo, let me know if you give this a try! I seriously love hearing from you, you can always reach out on my instagram, and I’m going to work to set up some sort of contact option and/or comments for the website soon as well! My husband is my IT guy/website builder (and we love him for it) but he just started his PhD program so he’s been (understandably) a bit busy.
Have so much fun! (Also, my mind is spinning with other ideas for Miss Mary and her little red dress.)
PS– this would make a great tech-free substitute activity! I always loved having my students teach the substitute a song (the kids LOVE being teachers), and then they could do the different activities with the song cards. Great for your emergency sub tub!
