Hello friends! Today’s Folk Song Friday is a delightful little song about a pumpkin transforming into a jack-o-lantern! The game that goes with this song is just so much fun, and it works for any group size, which means it’s prefect for homeschool families or music teachers over an entire school!
Who can make the silliest jack-o-lantern face? How about the scariest? Can you show how pumpkins could be different sizes or shapes? So many ways to play. Sometimes I would add a variant for my kindergartners where I’d have a “pumpkin picker” in the center, and they’d look around the circle to find the jack-o-lantern they like best, and then the chosen child comes in the center to be the next pumpkin picker. Pretty fun!
I seriously cannot believe that Halloween is in just two weeks. How in the world did that happen? Life is flying by at 100mph at the moment, in my work here at Music Lit as well as in my personal life. There were about three resources last week that I wanted to put up on the website that I just completely ran out of time for. I know I can still add them later, but I was excited about them and it can feel disappointing to not see progress on things that I was working hard on and excited about. But I’ve been trying to slow down and appreciate the simpleness and slowness a bit more lately. What helps you slow down when life feels crazy and busy? (in good ways and crazy ways!) Let me know over on my instagram. We’re still working on adding a comment section here on the website, because I always want to hear from you! It always makes my day.
Anyway, happy singing, friends! -Lauren
